Principal's Message

What a tremendous honor for St. Mary Elementary to be named a National Blue Ribbon School in the category of Exemplary High Performing Schools!

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program is an important part of the U.S. Department of Education that recognizes several hundred outstanding public and non-public schools annually. The National Blue Ribbon School award is the highest award a school can earn. Only 50 non-public schools are awarded this status each year!  This accolade affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and our Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools community in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content.

To be eligible to apply for Exemplary High Performing School status, schools must first place in the top 15% of the nation in reading and math in grades 3-6, as measured by a nationally normed test. Then an application must be submitted providing the demographics of the school, and describing the curriculum, instruction, school climate, community and family engagement, leadership, and special populations of students. The application must demonstrate exceptional programs, consistent quality education, and the ability to assist all students in reaching their potential. The Council for American Private Education (CAPE) reviews applications from all non-public schools and then nominates 50 schools for National Blue Ribbon status. We are so happy that not only are our test scores phenomenal, but our school was found exceptional in all other areas, as well!

Congratulations to O’Gorman Junior High and St. Katharine Drexel for also earning this recognition this year.  And as many of you know, O’Gorman High School is a three time (1985, 2005, 2014) recipient of this award, so you can be assured of the quality education your child will receive throughout their years in Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools!

Thank you to all who made this honor possible! We are a National Blue Ribbon School due to our incredibly talented and dedicated faculty and staff, our supportive parents and of course, our amazing students! We share this achievement with the generations of families and former staff who planted the seeds that were cultivated through the good stewardship of others. Now we may all enjoy the fruits of our labor!  God bless you all!
